This guide was intended for the first public TR64 release (well actually the second, ahem...), dated 00-10-08.
For an FAQ covering WIP3 and later, please see emuhelp's official TR64 FAQ. If they move the FAQ, go back to the EmuHelp.com index.
I will be producing my own FAQ when time allows, in the meantime, if you have a question that isn't answered in emuhelp's FAQ, you can ask on the forums.
General
If you downloaded TR64 within the first hours of its release, or even later from another site, you probably have the first version. THIS SIMPLY DOES NOT WORK due to a mistake made by the author. To be sure you have the right version, download from here.
This feature doesn't work yet!
They just don't either... :(
Yes, that's normal aswell... the windows minimise all function does work though.
Another bug I think...
They all come in the zip with the emulator (see below). In future, N64 emus should be using cross-compatible plugins so you will be able to mix'n'match between, say, 1964 and TR64. Not yet though.
The Video Plugins
This means you should run TR64 with the Direct3D video plugin. I explain how to do this below.
This means you should run TR64 with the OpenGL video plugin. I explain how to do this below.
TR64 will use whichever plugin is in its folder with the name "video.dll".
This CANNOT be done through the GUI! If the emulator is running, quit. You must rename the files so that the plugin you wish to use is called "video.dll". The other can be called anything, but must of course have a different name if you keep it in the same folder. Then restart the emulator.
This depends on the game - use the comment provided by the INI (shown in the GUI field "Comment") as a guide. It also depends on the relative quality of your video card drivers (many cards have terrible OpenGL support but are great in Direct3D).
Performance
This version just is. Frame rates in the region of 5 to 15FPS are normal! The author is aware of this issue and will be attempting to increase speed in upcoming versions. He has chosen to focus on compatibility before speed.
Sound
You don't! There is no sound support in the current version. It will come later, of course.
Gamepads
It supports the Adaptoid. I believe it doesn't work with PC gamepads, though I'm not sure yet about this.
Hmm, not sure yet. Don't think you can (?)
Make sure you have the latest Adaptoid drivers installed. If you have two Adaptoids and it still doesn't work, swap your pad over to the other one.
